The starting piece for this awesome lamp was a 1940's Air Raid Precautions (ARP) Air Raid Shelter Entrance Lantern. These were supplied by the Ministry of Supply for ARP and Civil Defence use

These lanterns originally had blackout shields over the openings that would bounce the light down making them difficult to spot from the air. After the war many of these lamps had the blackout shields removed. This is what has been done to this lantern and if you look closely at the pictures you can still see evidence of where these shields attached.

The colour and patina on this lamp is amazing so the only restoration we did was to deep clean it and then clear coat it to maintain and seal in the finish. It looks amazing now !!.

For the electrification we removed the original spirt burner adjuster and wick and fitted a vintage style Bakelite bulb holder. This has an E27 screw thread and we have used an Edison filament incandescent radio valve bulb. This type of bulb not only gives the lamp a wonderful warm light it also generates heat warming the lantern and making it especially cosy.

The lamp comes with 1.5m of period correct braided cable. The lamp is also fitted with an inline switch and UK mains plug. The lamp is earthed and has been PAT tested for electrical safety.
