The starting piece for this awesome lamp was Sankyo Sound XL-320 S . This was a cutting edge Super 8 cine camera that was made in Japan in the late 70's . It was in fantastic condition when we acquired it so no restoration of the camera was necessary. To turn it into a lamp we made a custom bulb holder that was fitted into the lens aperture. We also fabricated a custom mount so the camera could be displayed. The custom mount has been finished in matt black powder coat and it matches the camera perfectly. The lamp was then wired with 1.5m of antique style braided cable and an inline on and off switch.
For a lamp a nice as this we really needed a nice base. For the base we used a piece of vintage camphor wood that we salvaged from a New Orleans manufactured travel trunk. This was fine sanded and then waxed. 
 
The lamp is finished off with a 150mm LED double cross tube bulb. The lamp is earthed and has been PAT tested for electrical safety.
 
This is a truly stunning lamp, perfect for a desk or sideboard. It's a real conversation piece with some fantastic history.
