PLEASE READ THE FULL DESCRIPTION.. This incredible desk / table lamp is not only a fully functional lamp but also a stunning piece of art.

The starting piece for this lamp was a 1940's Art Deco Style Medical Table Lamp by the English manufacturer Perihel.

Perihel was a leading manufacturer of light therapy lamps for both professional and home use. They manufactured elegant light therapy lamps that were designed to be both stylish and functional.

From advertising literature it is known that in the 1930s the company although English owned was based in Germany with production in Prague. Then by the 1940s and 1950s it had bases in the UK at Edge Street and Rabbit Row in London.

This lamp has had an extensive restoration over the last month. Firstly it was sympathetically cleaned and restored to expose the true beauty of the piece. We started with the shade which was nickel plated copper. When polished we uncovered a lovely brushed metal finish to the shade. The shade does have some slight damage to it. There are a number of small dents to the shade. These do not detract from the lamp, they simply show the journey that this light has been on over the years. After all it is 80+ years old !! 

Once the shade was done we polished the two light stems. Underneath the grime these turned out to be brass. They polished up beautifully and now have a fantastic brushed brass finish. 

The final part of the metalwork restoration was the base. This is a very early phenolic plastic shaped in a classic behive shape. This was very badly marked when we received it but we were able to polish it back to its original finish and it now looks amazing. 

As part of the electrics renewal we added a vintage style bulb holder that suits the lamp very well. The lamp was then professionally wired with period correct braided 3 core vintage cable. The cable is a generous 1.5 metres long and is fitted with an inline switch an a 3 pin UK fused plug. The lamp has been PAT tested for electrical safety.

To put the finishing touches to the light we have used an oversize smoked G100 E27 screw fitting LED light bulb (included). This gives a beautiful white light. And the colours that you get against the shade are outstanding.

This is not just beautiful light but an extremely rare piece of British lighting history. Its a great piece of art that is guaranteed to be a conversation piece for years to come !

It's also a very practical light as it has an infinite number of adjustment possibilities.
